Had an interesting call from a novice user of Tribulus Terrestris recently and realized the validity of the information out there is woefully lacking.

Here's the story, cut and dry- https://www.tribulus-terrestris.net

Bump on this..

The trib in Adaptogen is the best I've used, bar none. And I've used a LOT of it. Original Tribex, Tribestan and even the old Fuzu product...nothing compares.

I suspected but didn't know for sure it was sourced out of Bulgaria. Was that ever disclosed anywhere or is this the first time?

Not really, because the cheap grade raw ones are still very often passed off as "Bulgarian Tribulus", but as outlined on the linked page they are world's different from a legitimate EXTRACT.

Using Adaptogen N again right now. I know I keep harping on it but it really is superb.

One interesting piece of info I've come across: Longjax appears to selectively convert DHEA and other precursor hormones to testosterone. It also positively modulates SHBG to free up more of the T as free testosterone, the biologically active form.

Asian J Androl 2009; (5 SUPPL): 25-95
Nutrients and Botanicals for optimizing Men's Health.
Examining the evidence for Erycomalongfolia jack, the Malaysian Ginseng in men's health

Early human trials on eurycoma longifolia: the land markstudies on human testicular cells incubated with standardizedwater-soluble extract of Eurycoma longifolia and with controlpregnenolone incubated with the same herb showed the herbpotentiate steroidogenesis in the testicular cells with 4 timesincrease level of testosterone and testosterone precursors. Therewas no increase in Dehydrotestosterone which is associatedwith cancer of prostate. In a double blind, placebo controlledstudy conducted in 2000 by Dr Sareena from the Department ofSport Science at the University of Malaya, provided 14 healthyadult males with either 100 mg day"1 of the Standardized extractor placebo for 8 weeks. Both groups performed an intensivestrength-training program for 8 weeks. The group on theStandardized extract showed improved body mass index as wellas muscle strength. In a non comparative non placebo controlledstudy conducted in 2001 by Dr Ismail Tambi at the ReproductiveResearch Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where 30 marriedmen, aged 31-52 years old, took 200 mg of the standardizedextract regularly for three consecutive weeks. Interviewsindicated that 73% felt healthy, active and energized, 82improved psychological wellbeing and 62% felt increased sexualdesire. The subjects showed an increased free testosterone index.Increased testosterone levels help improve libido, energy andmuscle mass for bodybuilding. Their levels of DHEA, anothercritical steroid hormone, gradually increased from 26% after oneweek to 47% after three weeks.Extended clinical trials: a double-blind placebo controlledhuman clinical trial conducted in 2004 by Dr.Ismail Tambi where20 male volunteers of various health conditions from the ages of38 to 58 randomly given 200, 400, or 600 mg of the standardizedextract or placebo for 2 months showed elevated SHIM scoresshowing improvement in sexual desire and performance aswell as improved AMS score showing improvement in sexual, physical, psychology, and vasomotor domains for majority ofthe volunteers. Testosterone and DHEAS levels showed highnormal levels when compared to baseline. Diabetic volunteersshowed an improved level of blood glucose. The Cortisol levelswere fluctuating suggesting the extract modulates the release ofCortisol. The majority of volunteers have high normal levels

Conclusion: standardized water-soluble extract of Eurycoma longifolia jack, the Malaysian Ginseng has undergone numerous clinical trials and evaluations locally and internationally and has been found to be a beneficial botanical optimizing men's health. The standardized extract has been patented as a supplement for men's health specifically in enhancing testosterone and improving male fertility of idiopathic causes. The extract has been found to be non-toxic even at a high dose of 600mg to the body functions. Extended studies on the same extract has proven the herb to be an energizer, an aphrodisiac, an ergogenic botanical which also facilitate muscle fatigue recovery and anti-stress. It is a potent adaptogen as well. Overall effects on the various hormones are also positive. It enhanced total testosterone and DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) which also modulate testosterone levels, ensuring enough free testosterone for the body's need. It's other adaptogenic effects include positive effect on body cortisol levels as well as on growth hormone as it modulates the release of IGF-1. With all these ample scientific and clinical findings, Standardized patented water-soluble extract of Erycoma lonfolia, the Malaysian Ginseng has emerged as a potent botanical supplement im men's health.

And back on topic with respect to Trib, the latest study:

Fiziol Zh. 2009;55(5):89-96.
The influence of the Tribulus terrestris extract on the parameters of the functional preparadness and athletes' organism homeostase.

Milasius K, Dadeliene R, Skernevicius J.
Vilnius Pedagogical University, Lithuania.

"The influence of the Tribulus terrestris extract on the parameters of the functional preparadness and athletes' organism homeostase was investigated. It was established the positive impact of dietary supplement "Tribulus" (Optimum Nutrition, U.S.A.) using per 1 capsule 3 times a day during 20 days on athletes' physical power in various energy producing zones: anaerobic alactic muscular power and anaerobic alactic glycolytic power statistically reliable increased. Tribulus terrestris extract, after 20 days of consuming it, did not have essential effect on erythrocytes, haemoglobin and thrombocytes indices. During the experimental period statistically importantly increased percentage of granulocytes and decreased percentage of leucocytes show negative impact of this food supplement on changes of leucocytes formula in athletes' blood. Creatinkinase concentration in athletes' blood statistically importantly has increased and creatinine amount has had a tendency to decline during 20 days period of consuming Tribulus terrestris extract.

The declining tendency of urea, cholesterol and bilirubin concentrations has appeared. The concentration of blood testosterone increased statistically reliable during the first half (10 days) of the experiment; it did not grow during the next 10 days while consuming Tribulus still."

I'm still looking for the full study. Worth noting though that my Adaptogen N run w/accompanying lab work showed a 55% increase in T in just 27 days.

For me, it's a non-issue. The stuff works for T elevation of that I am sure. What I take heart in is that it's HEALTHY. That's right, Trib has a beneficial effect on the heart. And according to this study, "the declining tendency of urea, cholesterol and bilirubin concentrations has appeared".

IMO, Optimum is junk trib vs. the Adaptogen N formula. There is none of Adaptogen's DHEA, Longjax, Suma nor melatonin. Still, even this low grade stuff gives an indication of the potential of the herb.

There's a reason it's been successful in this market since 1988. The test of time is often the most telling one...

Hi
I have found this from a very good company in UK
Pure Bulgarian Tribulus Terrestris.

As a medicinal herb we cannot legally describe any potential benefits, however Bulgaria is recognised as a producer of the finest Tribulus Terrestris available which has been linked to the dominance of Eastern Block countries dominance in international weightlifting.

Bulgarian Tribulus is very hard to find, only a couple of farms in Bulgaria harvest this incredible herb. No company in the UK has actually been able to source the raw material direct, and then taken the necessary steps to make the finished product to IS09001 standards. It took Reflex Nutrition over a year to find both a specialist grower of the natural herb and a company that has the technology to standardise the Tribulus to a minimum of 60% Protodioscin by spectrophotometric assay and 15% HPLC. The finished product is encapsulated in our state of the art factory to exacting standards; each capsule contains 250mg of pure Bulgarian Tribulus Terrestris.

You may have assumed that ordinary Tribulus Terrestris (standardised extracts usually contain 40-50% saponins) would provide you with all the benefits associated with Bulgarian Tribulus. Tribulus Terrestris is a herbal plant that grows all over the world. Bulgarian Tribulus Terrestris is different though. It is the only Tribulus Terrestris that is standardised to contain Protodioscin. In clinical studies the Tribulus used has nearly always been of Bulgarian origin. So if in the past you've tried a Tribulus product without the results you expected you now know why, it probably wasn't Bulgarian Tribulus.
Keep in mind that the active ingredient is Protodioscin and NOT saponins!

I have not tested it yet!

First, please... no links. Don't get me wrong, I know your intent was good... and we are free to discuss competing products here...but links to other stores crosses the line.

Second, I'd like you to consider the following: "Standardise the Tribulus to a minimum of 60% Protodioscin by spectrophotometric assay and 15% HPLC... Keep in mind that the active ingredient is Protodioscin and NOT saponins!"

This is JUST my opinion so please take this for what it's worth. I have used a LOT of Trib, going back to the original Tribestan introduced by Sopharma in this country in 1988. That also includes original Tribex, all of it's subsequent renditions, Syntrax Fuzu, bulk tribs from ALL over the world, Reflex's product you cited all the way up to the latest and greatest.

Some perspective...

Perhaps the best example is/was Biotest's Tribex. It originated as "full spectrum" Trib and glowing feedback followed. Then, the boys at Biojest decided to get all fancy pants and proclaimed protodioscin was in fact, the "active" in the plant. Tribex 2.0 was released and what happened. Ooops, people weren't too pleased. Then, Biotest went another route... they speculated that rather than protodioscin, a mix of protodioscin and protogracillin was the fix. What happened? Another stinker. Next up? It was Tribulosaponins A & B that were the magic. Yep, that had to be it. Nope, that wasn't it either...

What I'm getting at here is this... we know real, Bulgarian Trib "works". How do we know this? Its stood the ultimate test.... the test of time. It's been on the market since 1988 with strong repeat buys. How many products can claim this???

How about DAA? Everyone and their brother was hot to trot on DAA a few months back. Every PM I picked up was "what do you think about DAA?? Looks awesome!!". My response?? Give it 5 years, let's see if it's still around. Sooooo... where's DAA today? Dunno about you but I'm not hearing much about it...

Which bring us back to Bulgarian Trib. Again, this is just my opinion...but "full spectrum" Bulgarian Trib is where its at. Why? Because the more man meddles with "nature's fingerprint", the more he fu!#'s things up, that's why!! You see this all the time with Rx drugs.

The almighty Dr's think they know what the real "actives" are, so they over-standardize and "purify" them (Read: Patent them so they can rape you at the cash register until their patent expires... and others can offer it as a generic). Now, are the "effects" greater? Yes they are. Then again, so are the side effects!! You know what the #1 killer in this country is right now?

How about Rx drugs taken in prescribed dosages?!?!

I've done the lab work (both saliva and bloodwork) on Adaptogen N, containing (among other things) a whopping 1,500mg of real, full spectrum Bulgarian Trib. It works, works well and works fast. How well and how fast?? Last bloodwork I ran on it (circa 2006) a whopping 55% increase in Total Testosterone in just 27 days. Keep in mind, that particular formula wasn't nearly as strong as the extracts used in the current one.

Now, one final point on my Trib commentary: I have no vested interest in you purchasing Adaptogen N, nor ANY MASS product. None as in ZERO. My only concern is finding a product that works for YOU to help YOU get the most out of your Blueprint runs. I'm a simple man. I like simple. Simple works for me... :)

FINAL WORD: Whatever Trib product you do run with, you absolutely MUST invest in an "Electric Blue" Blueprint Tshirt. Adds 10% to all lifts and makes you a chic magnet - guaranteed or your money back :)

Hi

I couldnt find the med studies but i found this from Thermolife.
I just paste here the article not the link :)
ThermoLife International is now producing our first tribulus terrestris product to ever contain more than 20% protodioscin. This is important because protodioscin is the active ingredient in tribulus terretris that is responsible for encouraging the luteinizing hormone and raising testosterone levels (naturally).* Most supplement companies just sell tribulus with no active ingredient. Hell, most companies do not even know what protodioscin is. To prove this we have commissioned analytical studies on 8 of the top selling products that contain tribulus terestris.

The results are a damming indictment of many of the fraudulent claims being made by some of the biggest companies in the unregulated industry of dietary supplements. Anybody who tries the new Tribosten will know the difference. ThermoLife International is the first and only company to ever release a tribulus terrestris based protodioscin product of this magnitude.

For example: EAS has a label claim of 35mg of protodioscin in each serving of EcdyMax but the lab report reveals that each serving of EcdyMax contains 0.0mg of protodioscin per serving. See how inferior the rest of the companies compare next to the high standard of ThermoLife International products.
If it is ok i ll post the link of their test

Have a nice day!

Couple of things here and then I'll leave it alone... didn't I say this once before? :)

Thermolife and MASS are from two different schools of thought:

1.) TL standardizes for what they believe to be the "active" ingredient in the given herb/nutraceutical they're marketing;

2.) MASS favors "full spectrum" herbs/nutraceuticals, retaining what I call "nature's fingerprint". I suspect under the premise of, "nature doesn't f$#! things up..."

Neither is right or wrong. Important for me that you understand this... That's MY position on the matter and MY opinion, so please take that for what its worth....

FINAL WORD: Try BOTH!!!.... and use what product give YOU the absolute best results!!!

Rich, full-spectrum is, was, and always will be the way to go in my opinion.

It's true in every herb, period, if I'm put on the spot.

I can only tell you from my own experience. I have used trib, as have many folks I know. It as of itself did little, and thus noticed no sides.

I did have some success with Blue Rhino , but it was a stack of trib, longjack, yohimbe, and others I cannot think of along with a energy stim.

I sympathize with your "problem", many folks for some reason think that you have to be 50 or something to have low T. This is in fact not true, many teens and early 20's suffer through this for years.

TRT is recently making some headway in the medical field, and if you need it I hope you find a doctor who will do the needed bloodwork and analyze it.
